    Founder, Executive Director

    Casey, a Californian native, first moved to Malawi in 2017. She served as adjunct faculty at Mzuzu University School of Nursing and Midwifery in Northern Malawi through Peace Corps and Seed Global Health Partnerships. Her focus was clinical teaching and lecturing variety of topics from Emergency Care to pharmacology.

    Her skill is using humor and adaptability as a core in bridging the culture, language and knowledge gap.

    Casey holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Puerto Rico and a Masters in International Public Health from the University of Sydney.

    She started this NGO after working with Betti and Eluby since 2018 on a community based MHH project supported by The Cova Project providing free education and menstrual cups throughout Malawi.

    Casey lives in Lilongwe and founded CARVE Africa out of love for the country and passion for people and their health.

  • Betti Nhlane

    Program Leader, Lead Trainer

    Betti, born and raised in Mzuzu, she is CARVE Africa’s leading MHH and menstrual cup trainer. We promise, you have never seen someone seamlessly combine humor, humility, and technical know how to engage ALL. Betti has been lead trainer in our previous community based menstrual cup programs for the last 4 years.

    She has had 10 chiefs laughing and engaged simultaneously in the conversation on MHH and cups in rural areas therefore increasing support and access for safe, effective and high quality education and menstrual cups.

    Open minded, quick, experienced and a leader in her community, she is a core component to CARVE Africa’s success.

  • Eluby Shaba

    Program Advisor, Lead Trainer

    Eluby, Betti’s daughter, is currently attending University of Malawi at Chancellor College full time. During her breaks from school she either heads home to Mzuzu where Betti and her head rural to continue MHH education and cup dispersal or follow up. She has been a part of our team since inception in 2018 and will continue to be a driving force for youth involvement in our SRHR and MHH services.

    She has spoken in front of large crowds regarding MHH and has often been the face of our push for gender equality. Eluby dreams of becoming a full time advocate for women’s rights and Sexual Health with CARVE when she finishes her undergraduate degree.
